If you’re going to drive two and half hours to Monticello, then what’s an extra hour to go and see the Natural Bridge State Park in Virginia? In fact, I think the Natural Bridge is alone worth the three and a half hour drive from Washington, D.C.
The Natural Bridge, a national historic landmark, is a 215 foot high arch or geological formation. There’s a lot of stairs to climb down (and back up to return) in order to view the Natural Bridge. And the view is worth every step!
If you have little kids, leave the stroller behind. You’ll need to baby wear if your child is not a very confident climber. As long as the weather is nice, visiting the Natural Bridge should be a fun outdoor activity for all ages.
And there’s plenty of other activities in the area. Everything from more hiking trails to cider tasting. We really liked tasting the delicious cider from the Foggy Ridge Cider tasting room, another two hour drive from the Natural Bridge. Unfortunately their tasting room is now closed, but there are plenty other cideries, wineries, and meaderies in Virginia. Happy adventuring and tasting!
